Efforts to improve early childhood education and care (ECEC) in Georgia are progressing rapidly. As part of the World Bank-supported I2Q Project, the San Diego State University is working to introduce a new provision framework, establish a data reporting system, and develop policies for the professional development and performance evaluation of educators. These initiatives are being piloted in six municipalities selected by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia.

From October 8–10, Ms.Tamar Chkonia, Lead of Early Childhood Education Componebt of the I2Q Project, along with teh SDSU key experts and representatives from the International Education Center, visited the municipalities of Zugdidi, Vani, and Lanchkhuti. The team engaged with local mayors, directors of kindergarten unions, and kindergarten educators to present ongoing efforts and future plans aimed at enhancing ECEC systems and management.

During the visits, the team:

  • Examined the local context and challenges faced by kindergartens.
  • Conducted site visits to evaluate infrastructure and observe educational processes.
  • Consulted with personnel to identify needs and opportunities for improvement.

The project aligns closely with the needs of local communities, focusing on:

  • Professional development of educators.
  • Implementation of modern, game-based learning methods.
  • Adapting curricula to address the unique needs of children.

With strong local leadership and collaboration, these efforts are expected to create meaningful and lasting advancements in Georgia's early childhood education system.
