Experts from the San Diego State University Research Foundation (SDSURF) are continuing their collaboration with the National Center for Education Quality Development to enhance the quality of early childhood education in Georgia. As part of the I2Q Project, supported by the World Bank, efforts are focused on implementing a robust quality assurance framework and developing effective monitoring mechanisms.
On November 17, in partnership with the Tbilisi City Kindergarten Management Agency, trainers selected to prepare and retrain authorization experts for early childhood education institutions visited Kindergarten No. 22 in Tbilisi. The visit aimed to provide hands-on training and insight into critical areas such as Sanitation, Hygiene, and Nutrition areas within kindergartens.
Led by Tamar Chkonia, Head of the Preschool Education Component, the trainers, along with the kindergarten director, reviewed sanitation and hygiene practices and discussed challenges related to food organization. The team also observed the implementation of HACCP standards and their practical application on-site.
During the visit, trainers engaged with key personnel, including the kindergarten administration, a nurse, and staff responsible for education and food management. The discussions covered essential topics such as:
- Food intake, storage, preparation, and delivery processes.
- Waste disposal, food sampling, and storage practices.
- Personal and children’s hygiene.
- Management of epidemic situations.
- Monitoring and management of children’s temperature.
The insights gathered during the visit will inform the development and refinement of training modules for authorization experts. These modules will focus on enhancing knowledge and practices related to sanitation, hygiene, and food management, ensuring alignment with quality standards in early and preschool education institutions.
This initiative represents a significant step toward improving the quality of education and care in Georgia's early childhood institutions, fostering safer and healthier learning environments for children.
